Straight out of the studio — slide to compare.

Paint-bucket recoloring died the moment anyone looked closely at it: one flat hue slapped across highlights and shadows alike, turning a leather chair into a leather-shaped decal. An object's color is really a family of colors — bright where light lands, deep where shadow pools, tinged by everything the surface reflects — and the family has to move together.

Tell the remake what to recolor and what shade to reach. It finds that object down to its fiddly edges, then re-renders the color family: the mustard armchair keeps its velvet nap, its bright arm and its shadowed seat now mustard in the correct proportions. Finishes travel too — say 'matte', 'metallic', or 'glossy' and the surface behavior follows.

Homeowners repaint walls and cabinets before buying a single can. Sellers spin one hero photo into a full colorway lineup with lighting that matches across the set, because every variant shares the same source. Stylists test the teal tie against the gray suit. For swapping an object's material rather than its color — velvet to leather, oak to marble — take the request to the AI Editor.

Questions, answered

Can I recolor something to white or black without losing the detail?

Yes — the extremes are handled as materials, not as erasers. A black version keeps its highlight structure and a white version keeps its shadow depth, which is what stops either from reading as a silhouette or a blank.

How does it decide where the object stops?

From your description plus the visual edges: 'the front door' stops at the frame, 'her scarf' stops at the coat. When two candidates could match, disambiguate with position — 'the mug closest to the laptop'.

Can I show a client three trim colors on the same house photo?

That is a flagship use: run the same upload three times with three shades and present the set. Identical lighting across versions makes the comparison fair in a way three separate photos never are.

Do reflections of the object elsewhere in the photo update too?

Strong nearby reflections — a car's paint in a puddle — are part of what the render tries to keep coherent, but always audit mirrors and glossy floors in the result. Reflected color is the easiest place for any recolor to slip.
