BeforeAfter

Straight out of the studio — slide to compare.

Paper photographs live hard lives. They ride in wallets, get pinned to corkboards, survive floods and attics, and pass through generations of thumbs. By the time a print reaches you, the chemistry has faded, the corners have creased, and a crack may run straight through a grandparent's smile. The moment the print recorded is still in there — this remake digs it out.

Feed it a scan or a careful phone photo of the print. Physical damage gets reconstructed: tears close, scratches lift, water stains dissolve into the tones they interrupted. Fading reverses, contrast returns, and the color drift of old dyes gets pulled back toward how the print looked young. Faces get the most conservative handling of all, because a restored ancestor has to remain that ancestor — on badly damaged faces, review the reconstruction closely.

Once restored, keep going: the Upscaler turns a wallet-sized original into a framable print, and the Sharpener helps softly-focused old portraits. Capture tip — photograph prints flat, in bright indirect light, with no flash bouncing off the gloss.

Questions, answered

Can it save a photo that is torn into pieces?

If you can scan the pieces assembled — taped on the back or simply laid tightly together — the remake can close the seams and rebuild what the tear destroyed. Photograph the assembly flat and straight-on.

Do old black-and-white photos stay black and white?

Yes — restoration returns the photo to its own best self, tonality included. If you would like a color version afterwards, ask the AI Editor to colorize the restored file as a separate, deliberate step.

What about the yellow or magenta tint on prints from the 70s?

That drift comes from aging dye layers, and pulling it back is a standard part of the pass. Whites return to white and skin tones come out of the orange without flattening the print's period character.

Is a phone photo of the print good enough, or do I need a scanner?

A scanner wins when you have one, but a phone capture works: fill the frame, shoot square-on in daylight from a window, and kill the flash. Glare and keystone distortion hurt the result more than modest resolution does.
